Welcome to Twenty First Century Science!
Latest news
Welcome back to a new year of teaching Twenty First Century Science – we hope you had a good summer break.
User survey
At the end of last term, we conducted a user survey to find out how we can help you further with Twenty First Century Science. Thank you to everyone who replied and sent us their comments. One lucky head of science in Manchester won £100 of Marks and Spencer vouchers in the prize draw, and the first 50 respondents each received a free copy of the new GCSE Separate Sciences textbook.
GCSE Separate Sciences and other resources
Speaking of the GCSE Separate Sciences textbook, have you seen it yet? We listened to how some of you are teaching the separate sciences, and then produced this book to help. It contains just modules B7, C7, and P7, so that you can make use of your GCSE Science and GCSE Additional Science textbooks in your separate science teaching, which will be particularly valuable given that the government has made mandatory the entitlement to study separate sciences for those students achieving level 6+ at KS3.
If you would like to learn more about the full range of our Twenty First Century Science and other science resources, please visit the OUP website: www.oup.com/oxed/secondary/science, where you can also register for a termly
e-newsletter.
This website
We welcome your feedback about any aspect of the course, whether through surveys, the email discussion forums, or phone calls, and we listen carefully to what you have to say.
For instance, one of the of the things you told us is that most of you visit this website on a regular and frequent basis and want to make fuller use of it, so we are enhancing the Teacher and technician zone and adding features you suggested. The new version will be here shortly.
The (long-awaited) Further guidance has started to make an appearance, and all of this will be in place during this term, as will the remaining Useful websites lists. There are now direct links to these pages below.
Email discussion forums
Until this month, email forum subscribers have simply received each message as it is posted to the list. This is a default setting. Other options are now available. You may want to look back over some of the earlier messages posted to the email forum, or you may only want to receive a digest of messages once per week - or not at all. Using a web interface, a mouse click enables you to browse a month's messages. There are also options to search the archive, post to the list, and join or leave the list. Clicking on Subscriber's Corner (upper left corner) takes you to a page where a table shows any email list(s) to which you subscribe. Clicking again on the name of a list takes you to a page where you can change your settings - e.g. choose the ‘digest’ setting, or 'mail delivery disabled temporarily'. Just log in to do this on screen; if you don’t log in, you will get an email to confirm your changes instead. Begin by clicking one of the 'Archives' links in the Email discussion forums section below. Take a look!
Poster
If you are still interested in the free A2 poster (originally intended for displaying at your Year 9 option evenings to let parents know what the different Twenty First Century Science courses are all about), please contact Sarah Taylor (email: sarah.taylor@oup.com or phone: (01865) 353795). Alternatively, download an A4 version here.
